Hindu Xenophobia
Hindus believe in Vasudhaive Kutumbkam and Sarve Bhaventu Sukhina. i.e. World is one family and all live healthy, happy, and prosperous. Hindu Xenophobia is the reaction of historical memories.
Colonial rulers divided the people of the Indian subcontinent based on religion, culture, and faith. It was assumed by colonial powers that Muslims could not live in peace with Jews, Christians, and Hindus. Colonial people ruled others by dividing and inciting violence against each other, desecrating symbols valued by other communities inciting violence.
After independence, the Hindu Kings agreed to join together and create India. Muslim Kings joined and created Pakistan in 1947. Bengali electorates were in the majority after the 1970 elections in Pakistan, which Punjabi leaders did not accept. Later, Punjabi Muslims tortured Bengali Muslims, and the birth of Bangladesh took place. The culture of Bengal is different from that of Punjabi Muslims, though both follow Islam, and Islam is a unifying factor.
Social and political leaders during 1947 of India’s partition, agreed and were convinced that Muslims and Hindus can not live together, as by nature Muslims rebel and Hindus argue. This cultural difference is visible in the political governance of Pakistan and India. India remained democratic and elected legislatures to rule, while Army Generals ruled Pakistan, and democratic elected leaders were dethroned and murdered in Pakistan.
Hindus adopted the colonial art of ruling and used Muslims during elections, who decided to live in India, to remain in power. Many authors confirm that the politicians used fire tenders, conversion specialists, and criminals for communal violence to retain and regain political power. In the era of the Indian National Congress (INC) governance, many factional political leaders used Muslims to destabilize the existing chief minister of the INC. Hindus were in the majority in the ruling INC and other regional political parties in India, as many Hindu political leaders were elected by Hindus and Muslims. Muslims were also elected in a Hindu-majority area.
Riots and Pogroms helped Congress to remain in power, and Muslims were wooed to gain power. Muslims were appeased to remain in power, which became more evident during the Shah Bano Case. This appeasement of Muslims was adopted by other states’ new regional political parties and Congress started losing seats in parliament and states. This appeasement of Muslims practiced by Congress and other regional political parties caused social dissatisfaction among Hindus, who felt insecure, though Hindus were in the majority. Hindus migrating from Kashmir due to Muslim terror exacerbated the fear and compelled Hindus to forget secularism and accept the original policy advocated by Muslim leaders that Hindus and Muslims can not live together.
Narender Modi mobilized the majority community against Muslims in Gujarat after the Godhra Kand and became the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2002. Gujarat progressed under Narender Modi’s rule, and later, the Indian people elected him as Prime Minister of India in 2014.
Muslims opposed Narender Modi’s Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), and many academics wrote articles abusing him as a murderer of Muslims and democracy, though the Supreme Court disagreed on the charges levelled by the opposition.
INC and regional political parties in many Indian states supported gangs, mafia, dons and corrupt people to remain in power. There was no law and order and INC appeased Muslims in Shah Bao Case first and later Hindus in Ram Janam Bhumi case. This caused political mistrust and INC and other regional parties started losing elections.
Hindus were not Xenophobic, but the events in Kashmir and the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal moulded Hindus’ thoughts of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam and Atithi Devo Bhav i.e., the world is one family and guests are like Gods. Hindu leaders opposed “Love Jihad” and proselytism. Narender Modi used these sentiments to regroup Hindus and gained political power in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) headed by Mamata Berjee, who was earlier in Congress, ruled West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee left the Congress party (INC) in 1997 and did not agree on the policies of Congress’s appeasement of Muslims. INC overlooked illegal migration from Bangladesh. Later, to remain in power, she also accepted the appeasement of Muslims.
This resulted in her defeat after fifteen years of rule in the 2026 West Bengal elections. Bhartiya Janta Party(BJP) led by Narender Modi, gained political power on 4 May 2026. Many academics and opposition political parties call him and Hindus Xenophobic. But the fact is, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. The appeasement of Muslims by the INC and TMC had an opposite reaction and Hindus reacted against these political parties and voted for BJP.
It is important that there should be a uniform civil code for society. Rules should be the same for all. I agree that human being favour their race and colour, and journalists need money to live, but any favour that exceeds more than the acceptable limit can cause conflict in society. Academics must refrain from calling Jews, Christians, and Hindus xenophobic.
People without Borders agree that for peace and prosperity, criminals who want to divide society based on religion, culture, colour, and race must be punished. Capitalists are the prime movers of society, but capitalists can not survive without the working class. Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand adopt welfare policies that must be followed by other democracies.
People around the world are the same and can be governed by uniform civil laws, provided rules are implemented without any greed and desires of corrupt elites. Conflicts can be minimized by practicing democratic means for the people of the world. BJP’s success in India is an example of selfless service for peace and prosperity.
